Positive feedback from CIDRZ

Mwabu works in partnership with several organisations operating DREAMS (Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored and Safe) centres in Zambia (Jon Snow International, YWCA, CIDRZ), providing tablets loaded with our interactive e-learning content for use in these centres.

The DREAMS centres provide a safe space for girls and young women to learn, ask questions and discuss issues relevant to their lives.

CIDRZ (Centre for Infections Disease Research Zambia) has expanded its educational outreach to provide lessons in safe spaces for girls residing in remote areas. Recent feedback from the CIDRZ using Mwabu Learn content shows:

Improved attendance

  • number of girls attending has increased since the introduction of tablets

  • increase in girls returning to sessions without being followed up or reminded

Increased confidence

  • girls are able to ask questions freely during the sessions

Improved learner performance

  • schools report better results for girls who have attended sessions at DREAMS centres

  • girls report the Mwabu content enables them to understand topics better

Increased engagement

  • through access to relevant topics and interactive exercises and quizzes

  • through having content available in local languages

  • girls showed increased participation in class group work

DREAMS is a global, public-private partnership between PEPFARthe Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Girl EffectJohnson & JohnsonViiV Healthcare, and Gilead.

The programme seeks to reduce new HIV infections in adolescent girls and young women (AGYW), who are 10-24 years old, across 10 sub-Saharan African countries, providing interventions to address key factors that make girls and young women particularly vulnerable to HIV. These include structural factors, such as gender-based violence, exclusion from economic opportunities, and a lack of access to secondary school.
