Mwabu is an education business that supports African primary school teachers with appropriate technology to improve learning outcomes, even in the most challenging of rural areas.
Mwabu’s subsidiary, iSchool, was founded in Zambia in 2010 and was amongst the earliest developers and deployers of educational content on tablet devices. Over 40,000 licenses of our comprehensive, curriculum-aligned content have been distributed in Zambia, where it is used by parents and teachers in thousands of homes and community, private and government schools. We also have a presence in 6 other African countries.
Mwabu has unparalleled experience of developing and deploying digital educational solutions, including content, training and hardware, into Zambian schools. We are currently expanding our portfolio to adapt our content for international use, reinforce our literacy and numeracy offerings, and enhance our data capture and analytics capabilities.
At Mwabu we are always striving to improve educational outcomes in primary schools across Africa, particularly in rural areas, and are constantly working on ways to make our solutions more affordable and effective.
We believe that better teaching is key to delivering improved learning outcomes, and that technology will play a rapidly increasing and ever more important role in this. Teacher training and support, supplemented with good quality data collection and analytics, is essential to building an effective education program. The availability of real-time data enables course-correction when results fall below expectations.
Access to good quality interactive resources and lesson plans makes it easier for teachers to deliver engaging lessons that children enjoy. The same technology that delivers the content can also be used for updates, assessments, attendance recording, teacher mentoring and communications: for us, it’s about so much more than just delivering content on tablets.
There are multiple challenges to deploying technology into rural primary schools: cost, power and connectivity being foremost amongst them. We believe, and have proven, that these issues can be overcome and that, ultimately, all schools will greatly benefit from increased access to technology.
